I've heard people say this for years but have always had a hard time
believing it. Is there any basis in this claim? Why would he have done
this? Is there some health benefit to urine consumption or what?

it's a known practice, said to be highly beneficial, and one of India's PMs
certainly did it but I can't remember whom. Never heard it said of Gandhi
before though

It is not urban legend. Ghandi drinking small quantities of his own urine
daily is well documented and was noted in a TV special on the man a few
years back.

Does this look like rec.food.urine? The purpose is cerimonial unless you
have no other source of liquid, then it has the health benefit that your
kidneys don't shut down and kill you.

Try alt.sex.fetish.

Nope. It looks like rec.food.historic, and the message is AFAIC ontopic.

The purpose might have been cerEmponial if you knew how to spell it. The
rest is hogwash.

Ceremponial? What the hell's that mean? Sounds like hogwash to me.

malternatives. And now you tell me they probably don't think Sierra
